Top 10 Summer Market Finds

Donut Peaches

Donut Peaches

As vendors at six local farmers’ markets this summer we travelled all over the region, and even started at a seventh (St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market) this week. As vendors we are there for the set up and take down – we see the freshest local products hit the shelves, and regularly discover new things for our plates too. We’re not just market vendors, we’re market shoppers.

As a part of many municipalities and neighbourhoods, farmers’ markets are a valuable resource. For education, helping to support the immediate economies and for strengthening communities through conversation and dialogue. We truly feel this connection is what encourages to help us expand our farmers’ market reach, and is truly one of the most enjoyable parts of operating a small business.

Here we share our Top 10 Market Finds with you. We have met hundreds of vendors over the years, and love seeing new items for sale. By no means is this an exhaustive list of the great food offerings at market, but just a small sample of a few gems we came to love over the summer months. These are what we found special and unique, or stood out as great products in flavour and taste above and beyond more mainstream sources.

I added #10 because I was just generally so impressed and inspired by the creativity of the unique items people were making by hand, and selling at reasonable prices. I am certainly doing my Christmas and birthday shopping this fall at the farmers’ markets – so many beautiful treasures to choose from.
